However, the good folks over at XDA Developers have found a workaround to enable the 90Hz refresh rate not just across the UI but even apps that you run on your device. While this will cause more battery drain, apps will now appear to run smoother on your phone. Things like swiping or scrolling will feel much more fluidic. The workaround is pretty simple and just requires a PC with Minimal ADB and Fastboot installed and of course, your OnePlus 7 Pro with the included USB cable.

How to Enable System-wide Refresh Rate of 90Hz

Enable Developer Options on your OnePlus 7 Pro by heading over to “About Phone” in Settings and tapping on “Build Number” 7 times. Head over to Developer Options under the “System” tab in Settings and enable “USB Debugging”. Once done, connect your OnePlus 7 Pro to your PC/Laptop. Launch Minimal ADB and Fastboot by holding the ‘Shift’ key and right-clicking on the ADB folder. And select “Open Command/Powershell window here”. Unlock your OnePlus 7 Pro and enter the command “.\adb devices”. You will get a prompt on your device to approve the ADB connection after which you need to select the option to agree. If the connection was successful, a string of numbers will be displayed on the screen. Next, enter this command in the window – “.\adb shell settings put global oneplus_screen_refresh_rate 0”

That’s about it! You have now enabled system-wide 90Hz refresh rate on your OnePlus 7 Pro! Do note that this will cause your battery to drain faster than usual, but we are not sure by how much. Also, if you play a lot of games, the 90Hz refresh rate will only be supported while playing supported games, the list of which is still unknown. While there is officially a 90Hz option within settings, it is essentially a hybrid mode which switches between 60 and 90Hz whenever required, so it’s not “true” 90Hz. Also, do note that, after switching to this mode, the refresh rate will be displayed as 60Hz in settings, but that’s only because OxygenOS is not programmed to use this mode using the workaround. Also, both refresh rate options will appear to be deselected within settings, again, since the workaround isn’t official. If you wish to switch back to any of the previous modes, you can just select them from Settings and switch back. Buy OnePlus 7 Pro
